REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

I’m interested in fertility awareness methods.

Fertility awareness methods use your body's natural functions to track your fertility. Some women prefer these methods because it allows them to better understand their body, and it helps them plan their pregnancies without the interference of hormones (e.g. hormonal birth control) or barriers (e.g. condoms). Methods include Sympto-Thermal, Creighton, Marquette, Billings, and more. Below, we have included information for these methods and where you can find certified instructors for those methods.

Please Note: While apps are available to teach you how to track your cycles, these methods are the most efffective when you receive education and support from a certified practitioner. As with any reproductive health decision, you will need to research and speak to multiple educators before finding the right method for you.

FEMM is a comprehensive women’s health program that teaches women to understand their bodies, and hormonal and other vital signs of health. FEMM recognizes that the health of a woman’s monthly cycle is an important cornerstone of her overall health. Through education, FEMM empowers women to identify signs of health or potential issues so that they may seek the treatment they need as early as possible. Through its medical management programs, FEMM provides accurate testing and treatment based on new research and medical protocols. FEMM programs include:

  • FEMM Education provides instruction to women who would like to learn more about their bodies and health, to people interested in becoming FEMM teachers and others, and to medical personnel interested in incorporating FEMM and its protocols into their practice.

  • FEMM has a health app that provides an easy platform for women to track their health, and to avoid or achieve pregnancy.

  • FEMM Medical Management provides general wellness checks to women at FEMM clinics and by FEMM-trained affiliated physicians.

  • FEMM Medical Protocols assess over 10 hormones, a woman’s clinical history and cycle data in order to diagnose and treat the underlying causes of symptoms associated with infertility, menopause, thyroid dysfunction, migraine headaches, depression, weight gain and acne.

Natural Cycles is an effective, natural method of birth control and is the only CE marked app intended to be used as birth control and is cleared by the US FDA. It is powered by a smart algorithm that can determine a woman’s daily fertility using basal body temperature. Unlike other fertility awareness methods, Natural Cycles uses only objective data and minimizes human error as the app does all of the calculations and interpretations for the user. While some apps do make money from selling data, please know that we never have, and we never will, sell our users’ data.

FertilityCare Centers of America (FCCA) is a non-profit corporation founded by the developer of the CREIGHTON MODEL FertilityCare System (CrMS), Thomas W. Hilgers MD, in 1999. CrMS is the innovative system which, for the first time, networks family planning with a woman's reproductive and gynecologic health. The purpose of FCCA is to unite and promote CrMS educational services through local FertilityCare Centers. FCCA manages a network of over 300 nationally and internationally affiliated FertilityCare Centers that provide instruction in CrMS. To ensure the quality control and standarization of all CrMS services provided, each FertilityCare Center affiliated with FCCA must have a Responsible Creighton Model Practitioner who is formally trained and certified in CrMS.

Where to Find a Teacher: https://www.creightonmodel.com/teacherlocation.htm

The Creighton Model FertilityCare System (CrMS) relies upon the standardized observation and charting of biological markers that are essential to a woman's health and fertility. It is built on research, education and service (the “triangle of support” for the CrMS user) and is an integrated educational system designed to assure the highest quality service delivery possible for the FertilityCare™ Educator, Practitioner and the client couple. The CrMS is based upon a couple’s knowledge and understanding of their naturally-occurring phases of fertility and infertility. Through this understanding, the couple is able to make decisions (choices) regarding the achievement or avoidance of pregnancy. This system provides information which deals with the complete dimension of the procreative ability. In addition, it provides women the added benefit of being able to monitor and maintain their procreative and gynecologic health over a lifetime. It is truly the only family planning system which has networked family planning with gynecologic and procreative healthcare and health maintenance. The teachers of the CrMS are trained allied health professionals and specifically-trained physicians have been educated to incorporate the CrMS into their medical practice.
